Village Hotel - Pohnpei

The award winning Village Hotel has twenty-one native-style thatched cottages perched on a hillside in a natural setting five miles south of Kolonia. The rooms have two queen waterbeds with mosquito nets, wicker furniture, private baths and ceiling fans. Air conditioning is unnecessary because the hotel's design makes the most of the cool cross breezes.

The Village Hotel's Tattooed Irishman Restaurant and Bar is an open-air thatched gathering area with an unbeatable hillside setting and a distant view of Sokehs Rock across the lagoon. For a gorgeous vista or a romantic evening, have dinner or tropical drinks served to you in the thatched gazebo.

The Village Hotel received the first Ecotourism Award ever granted by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, a Washington DC agency that funds start-up businesses which demonstrate sensitivity to environmental concerns. "OPIC proudly recognizes the Arthurs' outstanding efforts and achievements in providing access for visitors to the natural beauty of the island of Pohnpei. The Arthurs long have recognized the importance of safeguarding the environment for the benefit of the people of Pohnpei and for the pleasure of their guests. Their environmental ethics also were part of a successful business strategy in a developing country. The Village Hotel has demonstrated the viability of private sector initiative and contributed to cultural heritage preservation in Pohnpei. Thus, from both an environmental and cultural perspective, the Arthurs have made Pohnpei a better place for those who were there when they came, for those who have been their guests, and for those who will follow."
